Day 17: My Favorite Drama
The Social Network
This almost makes it as my all time favorite film and no, not because it’s “like, totally about facebook, and that’s just like awesome”. Yes, it’s amazing how the site grew, but I love this film for the INCREDIBLE dialogue and brilliant acting skills of Jesse Eisenberg. I know Eisenberg’s portrayal of Mark Zuckerberg couldn’t be further from the truth, but he hits the high functioning asperges genius right on the head. Any way, here’s the post I wrote when I saw it back in November http://erinystheunseen.tumblr.com/post/1495069254/the-social-network

Day 15 - The Film That Depicts Your Life
I always feel very self conscious when saying that some movie or comic or song accurately describes my life. You’ll always get the comments “yeah, you and every other arty teen girl” or “I don’t know what crack you’ve been smoking, but that’s as opposite to your life as you can possibly get”. I often wobble on a very fine line between reality and fiction as it is, so sometimes, even just subconsciously, I try to make my existence like that of my favorite movie or comic.
Any way, the movie I choose is Ghost World, so you can understand the “you and every other uncertain teen” comment. But I guess, that’s what makes things like this so successful, how relatable it is to it’s target audience and crap like that.
But seriously, now more then ever, I feel my life is treading the path of Enid’s. I’m finishing highschool, I don’t have any idea what I’m going to do, and I’m trying desperately to cling onto that one person, but the continuous current of change is washing everything familiar downstream. I’m trying desperately to swim upstream, clinging to those few familiar things, but have you ever tried swimming against a current with your hands full?
One thing I do have going for me though, is that it appears I function better in social situations then Enid. So while I’m being swept down stream, at least people will like me.

Day 14 - The Film That No One Expected You To Like
No one? Does that include myself? As I can’t recall a moment too recently when someone has expressed surprise in my taste in movie so I’ll just write about a movie I recently watched that I found surprisingly enjoyable.
“I Love You Phillip Morris” is about a guy who went from declaring he was gay to stop living a lie to becoming a con man, to finding the love of his life in jail. “I Love You Phillip Morris” is heartwarming and fucking hilarious. It’s based on the real life of conman and four time prison escapee Steven Jay Russel but this is NOT a story about being gay or going to jail or even about the impossible cons Russel successfully pulls off. It’s a story about love knowing no bounds and all that jazz.
So, yes, sorry for the crappy picture, but I wanted something that showed both Ewan McGregor and Jim Carrey. These two played the most convincing gay straight men since Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal and the chemistry between them was amazing. The acting in general, by all cast members, was phenomenal, especially in the supporting cast.
Jim Carrey of course had moments of very Jim Carrey-ness, bizarre movements and frantic facial expressions, but Ewan McGregor has to be one of the most diverse actors of the 21st century. I suppose there were some hints of tenderness seen similar to that which he once showed Nicole Kidman in Moulin Rouge, but McGregor’s lover in Phillip Morris was a lot harsher and more realistic then the dreamer Christian.
So yes, if you’re looking for a love story with a difference, give this one a go.

Day 13: Guilty Pleasure.
I’m doing day 13 tonight, because I’m currently indulging in one of those guilty pleasures right now.
She’s The Man. If anyone should admit to having a favorite Amanda Bynes movie, I’d have to say this is one of them =P Though, I do find all Amanda Bynes movie’s slightly amusing in a mindless way. “Big Fat Liar” was refreshingly original and the “What a Girl Wants” had a guy in it that my 12 year old self thought was rather cute. “She’s the Man” takes is premise straight from Shakespeare, adapting “The Twelfth Night” for a simpler modern audience. This not, by any means, my favorite Shakespearian adaption, but still, it gets the common theme of “girl power” across and the adorable relationship between Duke Orsino and Viola. Also, it has Vinnie Jones as a soccer coach 8D I love Vinnie Jones.
Of course, I’d never actively put one of these movies on to watch, but if they ever happened to be on TV and I had nothing better to do, I could quite easily sit through them.

Today I’m going to do both day 10 and 11, cause they both have a similar theme. LET’S SEE IF YOU CAN SPOT IT 8D

Day 10: A film with my favorite female actor.

Uma Thurma.

Solely for her work with Quintin Tarrantino. Screw you Ellen Ripley and Sarah Connor, the Bride (or Beatrix Kiddo) is the most badass female ever to draw weapons on the big screen. I adore Kill Bill 1 and 2. Who needs deeper meaning and believability when you have unnecessary violence of martial arts movie with a western feel.

Day 11: A movie from my favorite director.

Favorite Director: Quintin Tarrantino. Favorite Movie: Reservoir Dogs. The best movie about a robbery, where the robbery is never shown.

I was going to say True Romance is my favorite Tarrantino flick, but then I remembered he sold the script for True Romance to finance Dogs. I still recommend you check it out as well. Distinctly Tarrantino.

The only Tarrantino associated movie I haven’t watched is Jackie Brown, and I’m slowly getting round to that. I don’t really like the idea of the premise, but I had my doubts about True Romance when I first watched it, but ended up loving it.

Any way, the opening credits to Reservoir Dogs are among my favorites.

Watching this is reminding me that I need to get a suit for an 18th Birthday party..

Day 9: A Film with my favorite Male Actor
If I was going to be entirely accurate, I would have posted something about Johnny Depp for today, but seeing as I’ve already posted “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” I’ll have to go with my irrevocably close to first place favorite, Brad Pitt.
When I was first introduced to Brad Pitt, by my mother, I was turned off by the pretty boy blockbuster imaged presented to me by her. But then I think it was Snatch that I watched and I was immediatly enlighten to what a versatile and brilliant actor he truly is.
Fight Club was probably the second movie I watched during my Pitt exploration. Brad Pitt aside, this movie is fantastic. But without Pitt’s attractively gritty portrayal of the anarchic antagonist (or antihero?) this movie wouldn’t be half the hit that it is.

Day 7: A Movie that reminds me of my past..
Ah.. past events? A time from my past? How far back does it have to be to be considered past…? A movie that literally is my past?
Any way.. This movie, American Psycho, reminds me surprisingly of QACI, a school I attended for grades 10 and 11. Hehe… I remember watching it in the library and just as a particularly violent scene began, a nice little girl from my home class came and sat down next to me.
“Oh no, don’t stop watching because of me!” she insists. So, I say “okay” and proceed to watch Christian Bale drop a chainsaw on a naked hooker.

Day 6: A movie that reminds me of somewhere.
This movie will always remind me of my bedroom in my first house in Charleville. I was 10; it was the first time I had ever seen Pirates of the Caribbean and probably the first time we had ever borrowed out something on DVD. We didn’t have a DVD player then, and I didn’t own a laptop. I borrowed my Dad’s laptop for the evening and made myself a little cave in my bed with my blankets. I then proceeded to watch it three times in a row.
Despite it’s gapping plot holes, Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, is the only movie I’ve been able to watch multiple times in a row. I would have put it as my “Favorite Film” but I’ve loved the Princess Bride for longer. But good I loved Captain Jack Sparrow. That movie is what started an almost decade long love affair with Johnny Depp. Now, at the age of 18, I have only just taken down my multitudes of Johnny Depp posters. But there will always be a special place in my heart for that man and his chiseled cheek bones and slightly offbeat style…
Any way, I’m supposed to be talking about the place that this movie reminds me of, aren’t I? My red bedroom at 133 Parry Street Charleville… I shared a bedroom with my little sister, in our tiny old house, for many years. Seriously, our house was miniscule. You could stand at our back door and almost see every room in the house. The verandah was the best part. It was broad and almost ran along the entire perimeter of the house. I loved our verandah. It gave our house a lovely, old timey feel. That was until my parents decided to chop it in half to make a third bedroom -__- I suppose not all was lost. That became my bedroom, probably one of the largest bedrooms I’ve ever owned. It could fit two single beds at considerable distances apart. But the best thing about it was the feature wall. My favorite colour is red, so I begged my Dad to paint one entire wall this luscious dark red. But of course my mother didn’t agree -__- So we compromised… Half of the wall was painted red… Heh, but it was the way the wall was painted.. It looked like the red was dripping down the wall from some invisible gash. It was wonderful. I’ll never forget the day lady of the couple who were going to buy our house came into my room and exclaimed “OH what a lovely PINK room!” I could have strangled that bitch >.<

Day 5: A Movie that reminds me of someone.
I had a lot of difficulty choosing a movie today. Martin has shown me SO MANY good movies over the years, it’s hard to look at my entire movie collection and not think of him. I WAS going to do “Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas” and say it reminded me him, because he and I often quote the line “this is a task for men of true grit, and we’re CHOCK FULL OF THAT!” and then I’d say “DAMN RIGHT!”.
But to try and get away from my Fear and Loathing and Hunter S. Thompson obsession, and in light of my new follower fetchthecushions.tumblr.com , I decided to post Monty Python and the Holy Grail. It reminds me of my little sister and the time someone came over to our house, just when the 7 year old Rose was watching the “spank me” part in the movie…

Day 4 - A Film You Watch to Feel Down
I was ridiculously depressed after watching this film. That’s all I’m going to say because it’s incredibly hard to write whilst very tired and watching television.
One day I want to play someone “Toy Story 3”, “Where The Wilds Things Are” and “Requiem for a Dream” all in a one sitting and see if they kill themselves.
